Above Edge, rainclouds had gathered and now, after threatening for half the day, they’d finally opened up, pouring down on the city. To some, the rain was a gift from the Planet, or for those who still believed in the old religion, from the Goddess Minerva, but for one little girl, and likely the rest of the children of Edge, it was only a terrible thing ruined her day.
As the raindrops continued pelting against the upstairs window of Seventh Heaven, Marlene sighed loudly, her forehead pressed against the glass as she watched, her eyes half-lidded in boredom. She had nothing to do and no one to play with since Denzel had gone to spend the week at Cid and Shera’s house in Rocket Town, way far away then any place she could ever remember going to. Not that Denzel was any fun to play with anymore since he didn’t like tea parties or playing with dolls like she did and anyway, even if he’d come back early, he’d just swear a lot like Cid and her Daddy did, like he always did after these trips away from home.
Letting out another loud bored sigh, one of many since it’d started raining, she turned from the window and ran to the top of the stairs and then trotted down them, jumping to clear the last few steps. Twirling her arms for a moment to catch her balance, she ran over to the bar and peeked around the corner. It was actually filled today and though she’d been told that she shouldn’t be around drunks, she was really bored and maybe, just maybe, if she asked nicely, Tifa would let her help. That was, of course, if she could get the woman’s attention and she waved her arm at her, staying mostly out of view around the corner.

Once again the bar was packed with customers. Tifa poured and offered them their desired tipple, returning a smile as they paid for their drinks. Had Seventh Heaven gained so much popularity within these parts? No, she thought. It's probably because of the rain... many of these people don't have anywhere to turn to thanks to the slight drizzle outside. It benefitted the business, though, but sometimes Tifa wished she could've had one single day without the hussle and bussle.
'Maybe it was time to hire a few helping hands' she thought and had wondered where in the world did her protogé, Fuyuki, had gone. Through the corner of her eye, a little girl caught her attention. Tifa smiled at the sight of Marlene and was glad there was at least one familiar face around. She motioned at her customers that she needed some time alone and walked over to the corner where Marlene was.
[glow=blue,2,300]"Bored?"[/glow] she asked in a rather casual yet playful tone as she leaned against the corner of the wall to meet up with the little girl. The bar wasn't what you'd call child-orientated. Cloud and Denzel weren't around. And because she could escape this boredom thanks to the rain, Tifa didn't really blame her for how she was feeling.

At Tifa’s question, Marlene nodded, bringing her hands behind her back to clasp together and rocking lightly on her heels. “Yeah…” she admitted, looking up to Tifa then glancing towards the bar. “There’s nothing to do!” she complained then sighed, her gaze flicking back to the crowded bar, watching the patrons for a second, “Can I help with the bar?” she asked, looking hopefully up at the older woman again.

((Ooc - no worries )) Tifa raised an eyebrow giving an uncertain look at the little girl. Marlene was always taking on duties that weren't meant for her, but she'd always be willing to take those challenges head on. If Denzel would get sick, Marlene would usually be there to take care of him, while Tifa once again managed the bar. And back then two years ago, she had left Marlene to manage the old Seventh Heaven bar in the sector 7 slums. And to think she just a child then! 'What am I thinking? She's still just a child now!'[glow=blue,2,300]"I don't know..."[/glow] she said with a concerned look, as she crossed her arms. It wasn't Marlene she was worried about. She was going to stay under Tifa's watchful as always. It was the people in the bar... some (if not most) were already drunk, thus in turn, made them unpredictable. Adding a little kid into the scene made Tifa anxious. [glow=blue,2,300]"You'll promise to be carefu, rightl?"[/glow]

Tifa looked at her, and Marlene bit the inside of her lip lightly, expecting to hear a 'no'. Sure, she’d watched the bar when she was four, but that’d been out of necessity and she couldn’t really expect the older woman to allow that, simply to give her something to do. But surprisingly, it wasn’t a ‘no’, but instead, a hesitant ‘yes’.
She nodded emphatically, her hands coming around to clutch at the front of her skirt. “I’ll be careful.” She could still remember how rowdy some of the drunks had been at Tifa’s old bar, what seemed like centuries ago to her, and she knew that if she needed to, she could run faster then some weirdo drunk.

Tifa smiled playfully as she let Marlene help out at the bar. It was probably best. Besides, Marlene probably wouldn't have forgiven her if she had let her stay in her room for the rest of the day until the bar closed or the last of the customers had left...
Tifa gave a tray to little Marlene with a cup full of hot cocoa. She then pointed at a young teenage boy, no older than 13 or 14 years of age out for Marlene to see. [glow=blue,2,300]"See that boy in the corner? You can give this to him."[/glow] She smiled, certain that she could accomplish this little task. Tifa then returned from behind the bar, offering awaiting customers their orders and desired tipple. A woman entered the bar, her face concealed thanks to the cloak she wore. When she spoke to Marlene, Tifa got suspicious and made her move. She approached the cloacked woman, taking no interest in the money placed in the counter. [glow=blue,2,300]"Can I help you with anything?"[/glow] she asked in a serious tone, not really refering to the drinks to assist her with.

Marlene grinned and followed Tifa over to where the older woman handed her the tray, small hands reaching up to take it carefully. To the woman who’d spoken to her, she’d merely blink, moving as quickly as she dared (which wasn’t very fast) with the tray over to the boy. The customer grinned at her and took the tray and Marlene smiled shyly back before taking a few steps backwards before turning to go back to the bar.
Tifa was talking to the strange woman, so the little girl shoved the tray up on the counter and moved to stand behind Tifa’s legs, peeking out at her. Something felt familiar about the woman, as if they’d met once before, but two years was long time for someone as young as her and she couldn’t remember that clearly. Maybe Tifa would know, she thought as she peered up at her mother-figure’s face as the woman removed her cloak. Being as short as she was, Marlene could already see under the hood so the great revelation wasn’t so amazing for her.

((Ooc - Lol @ Marlene!))
Tifa continued to hold her suspicious gaze at the cloaked woman. When she had mentioned 'it's been along time', suspision turned to curiosity. Curiosity however lingered for just a fraction of a second, leaving her astounded the moment the woman revealed herself.
[glow=blue,2,300]"J-Jess... Jessie?!"[/glow] Tifa stampered, suddenly forgetting all tasks she was meant to be doing. She took a closer look at the woman: light brown eyes, matching color hair. Her attire was different, but then again you can're really expect the same person to be wearing the same clothes for two years. Unless you were a particular somebody named Vincent Valentine.
[glow=blue,2,300]"Oh... my... GOD!"[/glow] she said, nearly shrieking out of disbelief. Questions rose, but decided to leave them out for them moment. Tifa embraced her old friend, disbelief consuming her with every second that passed. [glow=blue,2,300]"We thought you died!"[/glow]

For a brief moment, all sound seemed to be on mute, the everyday sounds of the bar being forgotten as Marlene blinked, the name ‘Jessie’ bringing the mind an image of a kind face and then another image, her father, his eyes shadowed as he told her that his friends – Biggs, Wedge, and…Jessie, had gone away. Marlene hadn’t understood then, and by the time she did understand what death was, her child’s mind had nearly forgotten completely about those people who’d played such a brief role in her young life.
Tifa had cried out, stepping away from Marlene to embrace Jessie, and Marlene, still somewhat confused by what she could remember, blinked up at her, her hands moving down to twist in her skirt, not sure whether she should embrace her as well or not. “Daddy said you had to go away. He said it was Shinra’s fault…” she finally said, her voice quiet as she spoke.

Barret came inside from the rain, he had been out all day and came to Seventh Heaven to relax and get a drink. He closed the door behind him and saw Tifa and Marlene talking to someone but he didn't know who it was on account of their back being towards him. He walked over towards them and stopped a few feet away. He stuck his gun arm behind his head and his hand in his pocket.
"So who's your friend?"
((sorry so short, just trying to wedge myself into this little swarey (sp?) the fighting post is fun and all but I want more to do and I'm still lost on alot of things.))
