The client was stationed inside the Fort, he had promised a big payout for the job. The ExSOLDIER walked quickly, finally reaching the entrance to the Fort. At the entrance, a man was stationed at the entrance, presumably a guardian of the fort. The guard drew his sword and yelled to the ExSOLDIER to halt. "State your name and business now."
Mar gave a disapproving sigh, he'd hoped that his client would have at least given the guard his description. Nevertheless he breathed in deeply before giving his reply, "Mar Shinreyasu, I'm a mercenary that was hired by a client in the fort. Now if you'll excuse me I have work to be done.""Hold on there, you have mako in your eyes...and that uniform somewhat resembles a standard SOLDIER 2nd Class outift, explain."
Mar gave an annoyed glare towards the guard, "I guess you wouldn't be doing your job if you didn't ask. If you must know I'm ExSOLDIER, after the fall of ShinRa I became a mercenary. I no longer have any ties to ShinRa or any affiliates, will that suffice?" His tone was sarcastic and impatient, ready to begin his mission. He ran his right arm through his medium length, wavy brown hair in wait.
"Alright I'll let you through for now, but don't even think of changing sides on us or I'll be sure to cut you to pieces.""Is that a challenge, if so I'll happily oblige." Mar placed his hand on the hilt of his gunblade on his back. The guard and the ExSOLDIER stared each other down, each waiting for the other to make a move. "I-I don't have time for scum like you, just get inside, do what you have to do and get out."
Hmph, he was all talk after all, Mar walked past the guard into the fort with a small smirk on his face. The inside of the fort was large and full of what looked to be a militia, Mar looked around eagerly looking for his client. Mar saw a man with a large brown trenchcoat and short black hair sitting at a table. The man motioned to him to sit down, he sat directly across looking his client over. "So good of you to arrive, I hope the guard at the entrance wasn't too much of a problem for you."
"Let's just get down to business if you will, I'm on a tight schedule." "Ah, the direct approach suits a mercenary like you, but let's begin. I've hired you to take out a group of NeoShinRa remnants that have started raising trouble here. They are a small force at the moment, numbering about 100 men. They were all former ShinRa military, and it's believed their leader was a commander.
To my knowledge none of them are SOLDIER, but you can never know for sure. Our Intel suggests they wish to try to take over this Fort as the first step in their plans to revive ShinRa. We cannot allow this to happen and I've heard great things about your skills. I need you to destroy their entire army, I'd send these men but we can't risk losing any more of our personnel. Will you do it," The man had a pleading look in his eyes.
Mar thought about the offer carefully, most ShinRa military were nothing to be feared for the average SOLDIER. This job wouldn't be too hard, "How much are you paying me for this?" "I believe 5000 gil will suffice, I doubt it will be much of a challenge for someone of your caliber." "Consider it done, where are they stationed?" "We actually have reports of a large force heading this way, presumably this is the enemy we were just speaking of. If so, they'll be here within two hours and we would need you take them out before they reach the base."
"That works out well, just let them come to me and I'll handle the rest. I expect my money immediately after the job's finished. Without another word, Mar motioned to the nearby waitress and ordered Today's Special. The waitress gave an approving nod and she came back ten minutes later with a beef and chicken bowl over rice, a good meal. The meal hit the spot and Mar walked outside to the field where the enemy would be in a little over an hour. At first he figured he'd wait until they arrived to take them out, but as time dragged on he grew impatient.
Suddenly standing up he grew exasperated with how long they were taking to arrive and resolved to meet the enemy head on before they arrived. Mar started running in the distance, feeling the adrenaline and mako run through his veins. He began to see the large shadow in the distance, the sun directly above the plains he was running along. He began to be able to make out the shapes of people in the distance, now doubt they'd noticed him as well. Mar drew the gunblade on his back, prepared to end this quickly. Like the client had said, the opposition was no bigger than 100 troops, each equipped with the average gear and weapons of ShinRa troops.
When Mar was no further than 100 yards away he noticed the frontlines crouching down, guns aimed in front of them, prepared to fire. He heard a voice yell the command and a sudden mass of bullets approached him. His mako infused body gave him the reflexes needed to deflect the bullets with his sword, not one hitting their intended target. Apparently surprised man was still moving, he heard the commander's voice again give the order, "Fire at will!" The bullets sailed toward him once more, he continued to run at them, deflecting a majority of the bullets.
Suddenly brandishing the gun blade he pointed it it towards the frontline and pulled the trigger. A Fire Materia bullet launched from the gunblade and impacted, creating a small fiery explosion which would disorganize the troops. The troops began to panic, moving from their intended posts. Mar had closed most of the distance and began slashing at the nearest troops. Each fell with one swipe of the blade, none were able to match the power of a former SOLDIER. That was 10 troops down so far...about 90 to go.
The bullets that managed to collide with their target felt like they were being shot from pellet guns. SOLDIERS mako treatments had made his skin and bones almost inhumanly strong. He continued to run, jump, slash and block; another troop falling every three seconds. In the next 3 minutes almost half of their numbers had been killed, they were really starting to panic then. Some ran from him, he slashed them down as well, none could escape. It had been a long time since he'd felt remorse for killing troops, he did what was necessary to help himself and possibly the planet. Mar knew he was doing what needed to be done.
With only the last of their numbers left, the commander stepped forward and drew his sword. The commander appeared to be wearing a SpecialOps uniform, no doubt earned from his active service for ShinRa. "You go no further traitor, I will leave your body to rot here!" The officer threw a cooked grenade towards Mar, expecting the explosion to take him out. Without hesitation Mar fired a bullet towards the grenade midair. The bullet hit and caused a premature explosion, rendering it useless.
Mar jumped high into the air and came down in a circular slash, separating the officer in two. The last remnants attempted to retreat but Mar chased down every last one and killed them, letting them die quickly. With the last troop killed he surveyed the area around him, bodies littered the ground around him for the next 50 yards. With a satisfied sigh he threw his sword into the air and let the magnetic pull attach it onto his back. He now began the long walk back to Fort Condor. A half hour later when he finally arrived he found the client and gave the details of what had transpired. The client gave a huge ear to ear grin and handed him the 5000 gil. "I'll be sure to remember you if your services are needed again, take care now." Mar counted the money and merely replied, "Yeah" and walked out the entrance of the base. The gil would last for a few weeks, afterwards he would need another merc job.
