The Shin-Ra Mansion. The birthplace of nightmares. He had not been in here in a while. It felt like decades when he was last here, when it had only been a couple years. Duorzum managed to ditch the ever-persistent Teivel for a chance to come here undisturbed. Hiding his demonic form with the human illusion disguise, he quietly slipped inside, like a ghost in the darkness. He knew what he would find here.
Something was compelling the copy to enter the rotted den of horrors.
He wasn't sure if it was the mutations he had undergone, or was it already programmed into his genetic coding. Whatever the case, he was obeying the call. Forever bound to science, from growth, to death. There would be no reprieve for him. He wandered, almost lost, browsing the termite-chewed walls and the weeds poking through the floorboards. Duorzum had read that the most horrific of experiments took place in this building.
He labeled himself as one of them, albeit late for the party.

There was silence.
Amongst the dust filled air and the stagnation of space long unoccupied, there was stirring that moved about like a mouse in the death of night. Perhaps this man, Duorzum, heard it; the still small whisperings filling the expanse of nothing between the walls and corridors that this structure what it stood as.
Footsteps running against the wood of the second floor walkway.
They abounded in all directions.
A streak of darkness, as a shadow, seen but for a second in the corner of the eye and a door slammed shut somewhere in the upper rooms. All became peaceful yet again, all became silent, all became serene. It was obvious now that Duorzum was not the only one occupying these walls, something else stirred, and whether threat of danger or imminent peace, whatever it was loomed hidden behind closed doors.
Doors that perhaps should not be opened.
And there were doors in the upper halls.
There were doors opened.
Rooms, closets, studies, yet all held but dust and spiders in their midst but there was indeed something else here. Something greater then dust and spiders that ran and whispered as running and whispering beings do.
And there were doors unopened.
One door stood locked with it's knob's dust disturbed. Ordinary, in plain sight, not hidden away, not at the halls end, and not in any standing of prominence or glory. It simply stood in existence as a gateway to a world as of yet discovered, yet one could anticipate the nature of this door. Perhaps it was a room, perhaps it was a closet, perhaps it was a den of dust and spiders, perhaps it was much more then this.
And behind this door there were whisperings spoken softly in languages unknown to the men of this world.
There were doors.
Unopened.

Someone was here.
He picked up the scent. Heard the feet banging against the creaky floorboards. Despite the presence of dust and the threat of sneezing that went along with it, he could still pick out the scent of human. It was a well-cleaned human. Interesting. The only ones he had encountered that were even remotely this clean were scientists. Duo had his fill of those.
Following the scent that his highly sensitive olfactory nerves had responded to, he approached the recently used door. Hm, he had not used this door. Paydirt! Duorzum brutally kicked the door down with a heavy steel-covered boot, easily splintering the rotting wood from the hinges.
He may not even need to use his guns this time if it proved hostile.

But the room stood empty save but for likewise emptied cans of food on the ground, fresh as yesterday, bottles of water half drunken or just about complete, and the smell of gun powder in the air. Humanity was trite in these chambers.
But humanity was no longer in these chambers.
And there was no life but it's signs.
But Alexander was there.
He stood staring in the still silence after the crash of wood underfoot in collision. Eyes cast menacing gaze upon Duorzum from behind the corner's edge of the hall's L-Shaped angle and Alexander made himself hidden but, as a shadow, he was there. Yet as a shadow, he was not, for he made himself not. And should Duorzum turn to look at the watcher, or should he not, Alexander ran away from this man, the brutish kicker of doors that so boorishly helped himself into the bed chambers of a once prominent individual and perhaps his spouse. But Alexander did not run outside.
Was he toying with Duorzum?
It would seem so.
And his footfalls meshed with the silence yet again and he became as a ghost dwelling therein contained within the walls of this long abandoned place. Whispers, his or otherwise, filled the air yet again only to dissipate like vapors rising from warm waters in a mid-winter's wrath, and he hid in a place his own.
He hid behind a door unopened.

Hm... nobody here. Well, wasn't this fun? Something was trying to play with him. Hide-and-seek, was it? Duorzum was never a fair player of the game. His senses would only intensify upon entering his True Form. Duo's main concern was the most recent mutations. He hoped it would not interfere and drive him to bring this place down in a heap.
He discarded the illusion in a purple-black cloud of energy. This would invite him out. Hey, it worked for many a beast. If it were to be an experiment escapee, it would be curious, now wouldn't it? Well, he had to give it a shot. Patience.
Duorzum went back to wandering the halls, in the form he was doomed with.
