One, two, three...
Another jump, another successful grab of yet another Banora White, a white summer dress blowing in the breeze, the morning was that of pleasant weather, it was sunny and yet there was still that well needed cool breeze.
... Four, five... five... What comes after five?
White sandals pounded against the earth, a little cloud of dust and dirt formed before setting once again. Small dainty hands came up to silver streaked brunette hair, itching it in minor frustration and cute doll-like pink lips pouts in a naturally childish manner. "Awwh! Phooey! What comes after five?" said the young 'un, her voice was clearly that of a young child, light and innocent, with the occasional playful tone. Her bright blue eye on the left and her gleaming silver eye on the right focussed hard on the eight fingers and two thumbs that she had, trying her hardest to count onwards from five.
Today seemed like the perfect day to collect some apples, regardless if they weren't as good as the ones the landowner owned, but apparently that were sensational, so sweet and juicy, too! They were mouthwatering to all who desired to take just one bite out of the delicious gifts of nature, women even wanted them for when Banora hosted its Annual Banora White Festival, such delicacies like pies, cakes, even Banora White juice was made, the best would receive a prize and their name in the list of winners throughout the years.
Still, the child was trying to figure what came after five, she sat there for a small while, her brown basket laying by her side. Her father was working at the moment, being the landowner's advisor after all, she had met him once, but for some reason she was always shy around him, she didn't want to be rude in admitting he scared her a little, though his wife seemed nice though, as for their son, well... she hadn't actually ever met him.
Though suddenly, in that short while, thinking she had figured out what came after five, something that was there was there no longer. "I know! Eight! Eight comes after five!" she smiled proudly, going back to her basket, twice she blinked in confusion, then once more in case she was seeing things. Her basket was gone!
"Huh?" she exclaimed innocently, sitting there dumbfounded, all it took was an apple falling and plopping onto her head for her to snap back into reality. She stood up as quick as she could, almost falling back down, the young girl began to look around fractically, wondering where it had gone until suddenly, not far from her, a group of five boys were running further away from her, their smug faces smiling as laughter escaped them, what she noticed was that one of them had her basket.
"H-Hey! Wait! That's mine! Come back!" she cried desperately, her little legs carrying her as fast as they could as she made chase.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So It Begins ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A sniffle and wobble dangled from under the boys nose whilst walking up the mud path to his favourite area in the whole town, it would be a quiet place where he could be alone and far away from the chatter and noise of the buzzing town that was now at his back. “Wonder what’ll happen today, maybe see my friends....” His tone was light and boyish but well mannered all the same and above all else, truthful. His friends that he referred to was none other than the dusk rabbits which made their habitat in the hills and valleys of Banora’s rich landscapes and earth, good enough to grow legendary fruits and good enough for sizable rabbits to live in. The rabbits were referred as dusk rabbits or hares due to their orange tinged fur and extraordinarily long ears that normally dragged behind them on the floor but this in no way meant they were easy to catch even by their natural predators. Dirt had been kicking off the ground as a set of feet slowly picked up the pace to reach their destination due to the lack of patients their counterparts lacked, a tired huff and a few sniffles repeated half way through the journey and right up to the very end when the boy was forced to stop. The air was cool and the sun was already very high up in the sky even for the early hours of the morning though the cool breeze hadn’t done much justice for the lad as he shook every now and again regretting the lack of a jacket. In the distance he could hear the laughter of older boys than him and further away, a barely audible yelping of higher pitch that must have belonged to a girl, the boy was curious and though he didn’t want to his legs instead forced him to run and his mind pushed his curious nature in front of his gut feeling, something that wasn’t unfamiliar to him to begin with. There was a fair distance between him and the ground of boys that now clearly ran towards his direction, their laughter bouncing off the rolling hills and getting louder as the distance closed. He halted in his tracks with dried dirt and ashy waste fogged and blew over the mud path but on the opposite side and impeding his way were the boys who now acknowledged his presence as the landowners son however they were far from afraid to hurt him and more than willing to gang up on him if need be for the fun of it. The youth saw the basket the boys were carrying and pressed both hands into his shorts pockets whilst jerking his head to the side with a confused expression to why they had been lugging around a girls basket. “Hey, um, you shouldn’t go into town holding a basket like that, it makes you look girly.” His tone of voice was wary but forced, swallowing down the odds against him and the danger of a beating he was going to get if he didn’t tread carefully. The other boys retorted yelling out incoherent words but this was only due to a girl in white running behind them in an attempt to catch up as swiftly as her legs would allow her, the youth now realised that the basket never belonged to the group and suddenly like a shocked-kitten reflex he jumped backwards and pointed at the group playing the part of the “Hero”. “Hey! You give that girl her basket back or I’ll make you!” A long floppy string of snot swung from his nose yet his facial expression was dead serious, there was a moment when the group had no idea what to do in fear for that string slapping them in the face and becoming mentally scarred for the rest of the day. However the mood caution flew over their heads as a small, stubby boy ran forwards yelling and raising a fist in an attempt to punch his victim, hard, in the face. Being aware of this and the fact of a yelling mad boy running directly at him, the boy moved to the side, stuck his leg out and tripped up his assaulter whilst scrapping his knee hard on the stony, dry floor. Two other boy ran towards him and leapt in an attempt to catch him off guard, it worked, and a scuffle between the three began. The innocent thrashed like a wild animal and even growled a few times, pulling one boys hair whilst the other tried to keep his left arm steady, the boy who’s hair had been gripped was forced to the ground and then kicked a multitude of times before he began to sniffle and cry. The boy who held the arm unfortunately managed to pull his victim into a lock with both arms behind his back and awaited his friends to begin their punishing assault however the boy with the auburn hair wasn’t afraid and remained silent, the last two boys approached with gleeful smiled spread across from ear to ear though before they could begin their victim unleashed such a terrible sneeze that the string which clung to its masters nose for the duration was suddenly free and splattered monstrously all over the two in front of him. They gasped.... Then they had tears in their eyes.... Then they ran.... The boy whom grappled the youth followed quickly and helped up his friends as they ran back to town with threats of telling his father as to what he had done, it was drowned out by the mere image of the white dressed girl in front of him so he moved a few paces forward and plucked the basket from the ground, move another few paces and held out the basket to her. “These are for you.” He said plainly, trying with all his might to not simply run away due to shyness, his bravery left when his villains fled.
The young girl was near close to tears as the boys seemed to get further and further away from her, the small pale legs which belonged to her weren't nearly as strong as theirs so therefor unable to run as fast. She cried and cried out to them, begging for them to stop whilst flailing her arms around crossly. "Give it baaaaaaaaaaaack!" she whined a high pitched whine whilst her white dress flapped in the wind she picked up with her running, her bottom lip beginning to quiver slightly. Suddenly, in the distance she could see that the boys had stopped and began to wonder why though still kept on running. She saw a scuffle break out, causing the young girl to gasp a little exaggeratedly as her hands cupped over her mouth when he legs finally stopped in their tracks.
"Eeeeeeeeeek" she squeaked, her feet lightly stomping on the dirt in a small panic repeatedly, her arm began to flail around as she couldn't help but watch. Suddenly, the boys seemed to be running towards her now which only made her squeak again, this time in fear but then a sudden look of surprise spread across her features when they ran straight passed her. She stood there for a while, blinking dumbly as she tried her hardest to register what had just happened. It was then a boy, her hero, then approached her, his hair a lovely colour, like a pretty sunset! A little blush appeared on her cheeks, having a weakness for cute things, and he was! So very cute! It made her giggle inside.
Her midnight eyes lit up as he presented her with a basket, her basket! She let out an adorable cheer as she nearly danced on the spot with happiness before reaching forward and rather eagerly nabbing the basket from his grasp in a non-impolite way. "Ooh! Tank yew! You fought off those meanies!" she giggled, swinging her basket around happily now as if she hadn't a care in the world "I guess Daddy's stories are twue! Hewoes do exist!"
She stood there smiling and laughing before her savior, a bright cheery look on her face as she smiled big. "Heeeeey! What's your name, mister hewo? I must know the name of my saviour!" she chirped, suddenly seeming overly eager.
The girl stood before him with long lengthy locks of brunette hair and snow white dress with a charming smile that soon formed into a gleeful laughter and thankful expression which swiftly enveloped her look as soon as she had seen her basket. The boy in return smiled as she called out the many appreciative comments, he felt undeserving for all he had done was drive a few bullies away, no so heroic but when she called him such in that unique speech of hers he couldn’t help but smile and nod acknowledging her praise. She asked him for his name and though he had never met the girl before she seemed so inviting that he couldn’t help but oblige, “Genesis” was the single word that slipped past his lips as he looked down to the ground half shy and half nervous as this youth was the very first girl he had spoken to for a lengthy time, if at any time at all apart from his own mother. The morning however didn’t wait for the two and clouds began to float by with the wind picking up behind them assisting their slothful glide, the lazy light blue of the sky gave the sense of peace and calm and that in turn assisted Genesis’ mood as he remained in his “damsels” presence.
“What’s your name?” He asked in an inquisitive tone, his knowledge of words was substantial and he spoke well, proper, and it was to be expected for his destiny (to his knowledge) was by his father’s side at the council. He held both his hands behind him whilst his knees bent slightly that offered him a small bounce whilst his eyes ignored the girl in front of him accept a few wistful glances every now and again catching her form and appreciating the petite figure she had however there was something a little off and not exactly in a bad way but rather an unexpected way. Girls to Genesis’ knowledge were supposed to be flowery and scared or shy, she didn’t seem either regardless of the dress she was wearing.
“So what brings you out here so far away from town?” His tone was more lifted and light as not to seem rude for poking into others businesses but his curiosity had gotten the better of him and he caught interest in her, over the small space of time he had slowly gotten used to her and was now looking at her directly with a few sideways glances. The rolling grassy hills in either side of them motioned like a healthy green ocean with spots of flowers flowing from left to right in the small breezes the currents offered, there seemed to be an infinite amount of space and they were both very much in the middle of the country side where hardly anything man made was but that doesn’t mean that there were not farms nearby or wildlife. Genesis in fact had seen a herd of Chocobo on his way to his “favourite spot” and they coudn’t have been lagging behind too far, the chocobo in the area were indeed free but very docile and allowed the people of Banora to pet and touch them, not timid like the ones near the ShinRa complex where they were harmed and used in barbaric manners.
A little bit up the road the mud path would fade and turn into pure grass lands where a few very large trees grew, all bore Banora dumb fruit but some were much bigger than others and it was here that Genesis was heading.
The young girl smiled brightly, her large twinkling blue orbs following his every glance as she stood there with her head tilt, wondering why he seemed so nervous around her... Were boys always like this? A soft playful giggle sung from her sweet pink lips as she swayed from side to side in her usual cheerful manner, her eyelids fluttered with interest as he introduced himself as Genesis. Her smile widened before clapping her hands rather excitedly. "Sir Genesis, it is then!" she giggled childishly, almost as if she were pulling him into some imagination land in her head.
She couldn't help but notice the way he spoke, it was odd to hear at first but she soon adjusted even though she questioned in her young mind who this boy was or whereabouts he lived in the village as she'd never seen him before... He must have been very well educated in order to sound so important than most boys she knew, but she liked it either way, it made him fit the role of the hero she had in mind. When he asked for her name, she couldn't help by sway to left so she no longer faced him as if she was shy. "My name is Kyrie!" she smiled, speaking in a sweet but soft innocent tone to match her features, her face suddenly right in his in an eager manner. Underneath his auburn bangs, she noticed the crystal blue speckled pools for eyes that he had which made her gasp in amazement, it felt like something out of a fairy tale!
Suddenly realising her father's words, she knew it was rude to stare at someone and quickly stepped back though this was good as it allowed her to answer his next question. Proudly, she held up her basket in his directions which was filled with lots and lots of Banora White Apples, her smile was confident as she spoke. "I was picking apples for the festival today! I got these from the biggest tree in Banora aaand I had to climb the tree just to get them!" she spoke in what adults would call a smug tone, however she was just a child who merely felt proud of herself for such an achievement. The wind picked up again as her white dress blew in the breeze gently along with her hair whilst some leaves swooped past the two children.
Her smile remained throughout the entire time they spoke and stood opposite each other, she thought it only fair to ask him the very same question. "What about you? How comes you're here?" she asked politely, considering giving the auburn haired hero an apple as a reward though she was sure she'd think of something better for him.
Genesis’ thought process was upturned with the newly introduced Kyrie as she motioned from left to right and answered all his questions in vivid detail, least to his own knowledge, she was however one big mystery, why was she out here alone? And was it truly just for some apples? Many similar questions spun around the boys mind as he attempted to keep face his Kyrie as she continued her answers out of politeness and even he could tell from her tone that half of her explained achievements meant a lot to her but perhaps that’s because she was a girl and not many girls in the village really climb trees but instead learn to cook, knit and sow, Kyrie seemed quite the rebel to run free and do as she pleased.
Much to Genesis’ dismay Kyrie asked the same question in retort with the same smile she had offered the lad earlier when he had returned her basket to her, he wanted to keep it a secret so like her he also answered vividly.
“I’m going to my secret place.” He said simply and rather forward as if he had something to hide, the boy was a terrible liar so in his earlier youth when he had learnt what a lie truly meant he gave up on its attempts all together as he was simply useless at it, he removed his hands from behind himself and instead placed them inside his pockets, “I should get going before I lose the day light and my friends decide to disappear” he spoke urgently and walked passed her a few paces forward, he stopped, then turned to look to the side and spoke simply.
“You can come with me if you want...”
The offer was handed with a small hint of sympathy and loads more of empathy for himself and the thought of simply leaving her behind, it was rude after all to keep a lady to her business if she had come out of trouble and if truth be told she was charming, in her own way. “You should come; perhaps they want to see you too.” He persisted and beckoned her to follow him as he made his way towards the end of the mud path and to where the trees and behind them, the rolling hills lay waiting for them.
Kyrie tilt her head to the side as she looked properly at the boy, he seemed fairly dress though she couldn't help but notice the finer quality of his cloths, each stitch perfect which couldn't be said for her plain white dress with the simple big blue bow around her waist that had faded in colour due to being overly washed and worn. Though at the same time, he looked like your every day mud loving, drip nosed, boyish young lad - there was something about him that interested her but at the same time felt worried. Her attention then caught a small patch on mud on her knees from climbing the tree from earlier, in a lady-like fashion, she lifted her leg up whilst balancing on the other to brush it away before composing herself politely.
She blinked with interested as her eyes lit up. Ooh, a secret place? It sounded exciting! But then his next words caught her attention. Friends? She pulled a small frowny face, she had never been so keen around more than one or two people so that statement worried her just a little. But he was a child, just like her, what harm could he possibly bring? He didn't seem like the boys who would harass her daily with their insults and bullying, even still she didn't know why. Was it that single silver streak in her brunette hair? Or the way her left eye went silver when moonlight hit? Though occasionally the taunts were due to her having no mother... The fact got to her at times, but she never would dwell, her mother was always with her, looking down on her... so why should she be sad? In her mind, they were silly, simply jealous of the wonderful relationship she had with her mama.
After some time of considering the chances, she quickly nodded, immediately joining his side in a near over-eager manner to the point where she nearly tripped. He seemed in a hurry and didn't want to be responsible for him missing out on his friends, she'd only be gone a while despite telling her father she'd be home in time for dinner... And it was getting pretty late, but she was too busy thinking of this special place - always one for an adventure.
"Okay! It'll be like a big adventure!" she chirped cheerfully, swinging her basket lightly as she walked by his side. The anticipation clear on her face. It was new, she had never been invited to anything before.
She couldn't help but hope...
The two had walked a fair distance from where they had met and the sun began to lazily lower its self above the horizon which clearly meant that it was more or less getting to the time for supper to be served to all the children in Banora before the festival began, however Genesis’ mind was far away from the celebrations and more persistent on the “friends” he had mentioned earlier. In front of them was a great, grant oaken tree, much larger than the norm and far more widely, beyond was the large valleys and grasslands that continued like a never ending ocean. The auburn haired boy went to the tree and looked to his newly found friend with a light hinted smile, he pressed against a piece of bark and the stalk separated to the boys height and width, the boy’s smile only grew in the warmth of the sun’s rays as he held his hand out to Kyrie, “Do you trust me?”
The next thing that came to pass was sheer darkness, nothingness, then he heard it, water clear as crystal and pure at the stone its self rolled off from an underground natural system and flowed down a deep hole under the grand oak tree and into a pool at its depths, the crystal waters lightly glowed the cavern and showed a safe path which spiralled down to the depths. Genesis held Kyrie’s hand and without fear or hesitation he led her deeper into the darkness of this mysterious place.
The boy explained on the way down how he had come to be here, how he ran away from his father after he roared at him for being in trouble and ran away to sob at the great oak, accidentally falling he had mimicked the same as Kyrie was doing now. He kept his gaze forward and the water continued to pour with slight mysticism as some of the water droplets floated when they hit the water’s surface and hovered for a few moments before blinking into non-existence, an oddity to say the least.
Finally the two had made their way to a deep, dark cave, the pathway continued to lead down however the boy went through the detour and disappearing from Kyrie’s sight, letting her hand go and vanishing into the darkness. There was silence apart from the water fall and a wave of emptiness scratched at the corners of the glowing cave until finally a call sounded out.
“Hello!” The voice echoed and belonged to Genesis but what was more surprising was what came next.
The sudden flashes of light sparked into creation of blue and bright yellow Carbuncles, creatures that resembled a hares head and body along with three large fox tailed, cute button noses and a gem in the centre of their forehead, their ears being very lengthy to hear from vast distances and their paws barely sharp but enough to grip and climb. Four burst from the darkness in their bright colours of blue and yellow, tackling Genesis down and wriggling around him as they vied for his attention with small licks and nudges of their nose. The red haired chuckled and laughed as he was assaulted by snuggled and love, and want, “Hey guys calm down, I want to introduce you to someone.” He motioned to Kyrie and the Carbuncles scattered behind Genesis popping their heads over his shoulders and arms as he sat in the dirt, the cave was smaller than what had been addressed earlier and more snug, the carbuncles glowing exterior made sure that every corner of the small cave was lit.
Kyrie huffed softly as she followed him along the steep rocky path before coming across a tree with him, she let out an audible sound of innocent questioning as she tilt her head to the side, blinking cutely before looking over in his direction. She looked on in amazement as her performed some sort of magic trick which caused the tree to change, her eyes glittering with excitement before turning to meet the warm gaze of her new friend. "Uh huh! Uh huh!" she chirped, nodding with anticipation as she placed her hand in his, blushing lightly from the contact though eagerly followed him in the secret place. The young girl's small body felt as if it was going to burst from all this elation.
When they neared closer towards the tree, her anticipation however was replaced with slightly nervousness - she hated the dark. With a sweet but soft whine, she then hugged his arm as they approached and eventually entered. "Nyeh, scawy," she said with pout lips, she was brave when it came to most things though she was afraid of the dark due to what lurked within it, she had remembered all the times boys back at the village had locked her in the dark and creepy shed not far off from her home. She nodded timidly to the boy's story, a sad expression forming on her doll-like face, she had to admit... she hated it when her father got mad at her, she would cry and cry until eventually his heart softened and held her close. Kyrie could see feint glowing in the darkness, though before she could speak, Genesis had released himself from her grasp and disappeared, she let out a small yelp.
"Ah! Genesis! Genesis, come back!" she cried, hugging her arms as she looked around from him but soon gasped as she saw something approach, getting nearer she could now make out Genesis a small ways from her. With a squeak she closed her eyes to prepare herself for monsters, though none came, instead what she heard next surprised her. It was adorable chirping and mewling sounds and then there was a thump. Kyrie opened her eyes to see her new friend on the floor being playfully assaulted by animals of yellow and blue. She gasped again, exaggeratedly placing her hands over her mouth as her eyes glittered once more, a wide smile spreading across her lips as she cautiously took a step forward.
Never had she looked more happy in that moment as she carefully knelt down, her heart void of greed or wrath which would hopefully ease the furry creatures. Her father had told her so many stories of these creatures but she never thought that they were real, but now standing here, she couldn't help but feel slightly overwhelmed as her eyes teared up slightly. "S-So they are real!" she whispered, her smile as bright as the gems on the Carbuncles heads. She lightly reached out, waiting to allow them to smell her so they wouldn't be afraid.
She then looked at the auburn haired hero, smiling her brightest. "H-How? I was always told stories but... I never thought--... They're so cute!"
