Rufus nodded, even though she wasn't looking at him. "My mother was a painter. I used to have hundreds of her paintings, until my father and I got into a fight and he took fire to them... This was the only one that was safe... I actually have Dezzy to thank for managing to get it before it got burned as well..." he wandered over, taking off his jacket and tossing it on a chair. Under it all he had on was a white tank top, showing off his bare arms. While he wasn't extremely muscular, you could tell he did do some working out in order to be able to keep up with his health and to be able to hold that shotgun of his, which he now carefully set on a stand near the painting. "This was her last big painting. She wanted to do something with me, but I would never hold still long enough... so she took a picture of us when I was a baby and decided to paint that... they say a picture's worth a thousand words... but a painting is worth SO much more than that... I always wished I had been able to learn painting when I was younger."
He had been able to, but while he had skill, it bored him greatly. Spending hours detailing fine designs and carefully structured portraits bore little interest to him. While it was nice, and it always turned out well there was never any feeling behind it for him... so he stopped. Until he could find something WORTH painting, he didn't want to even consider picking up a paintbrush. "I used to sit and watch her for hours while I read my books aloud to her. It wasn't much but back then that's all I wanted to do," he chuckled and then gave a sad sigh before looking at her. "Sometimes... sometimes I wish I didn't have the good memories I have of her... they tend to come when I need them to most and it feels just like losing her over and over again... Want to know why I always wear white? Why everything in this room is devoid of color?? Because she loved colors more than anything in the world... blue, blue was her favorite. She always jokingly told me it was because blue was the color of my eyes... growing up I found that seeing colors reminded me of her, of her paintings... of the beautiful colored dresses she used to wear... it just hurt... because she couldn't see them with me. I know that doesn't help, not being able to know your mother at all... but... in some ways I'd kill to trade places with you... I know it doesn't make sense... but it's true.."
"Oh good! You're finally home! Can I stop having to fuck around with the cameras every ten minutes now?" from the bedroom came a slightly annoyed voice, and Dezzy came out looking ruffled and flustered in her hoodie with a blue dragon followign her. "You said you'd be back like a fucking HOUR ago!!!"

A sad smile remained on Kyrie's lips as her eyes dare not leave the beauty before her, to know it had been painted by his mother herself it felt all the more precious though to learn his father had burned the rest created a small pang in her heart. As if unconsciously, she reached up and gripped the silver locket around her neck as if it were about to disappear forever. The thought of Rufus being a fussy baby made her smile whilst she on the other hand was a very sleepy and very greedy baby that was always hungry or wanted cuddles from daddy, her father sure did have his work cut out for him...
Her attention then turned to him, briefly noticing that he no longer wore his jacket, a light pink tinting her cheeks though she kept that same smile. "You'll find something eventually," she said in a soft but kind tone, her gaze taking in and remembering every detail of his expression at that moment, it felt as if all negative feelings she felt when around him had just vanished and was replaced with compassion. It was then he began to speak of why he wore white so often and why everything around him was as such, she could have stopped breathing right at that moment as her eyes widened, tears beginning to threaten to fall... She wore it for that very same reason, maybe not due to paintings but because of the empty void within her... colours led to imagination and Kyrie didn't want anything to remind her of her loss... She gripped the locket tighter as she looked away from him... Memories already flooding, though listening to him speak, she knew he truly didn't want her life - there was nothing worse than losing two loving parents that one gave up its life to have you and the other its life to raise you. Kyrie would never admit it, but it was the heaviest guilt she had ever had to bare.
"Rufus, I--" she began though was cut off as a particular blonde entered the room, her eyes widened slightly though she kept the hurt in her eyes hidden, what on earth was she doing? And in his bedroom?! Kyrie stammered silently before turning her attention back to the painting, pretending she hadn't see anything... Again, she felt the sting.

Rufus started at hearing Dezzy's voice, turning to look at her. "What the hell are you doing in here? Isn't your computer room two floors down??" he growled, less irritated with the interruption and more irritated with the fact that once again the other blond had broke into his quarters without permission. "And you didn't have to hold off for that long. I told you it might take longer and it did."
Dezzy shrugged and grinned. "Well I didn't see anything on the feeds so I had to come back sure you got home safely. Tis my job after all, fair prince!" she bowed dramatically and looked at Kyrie's back, winking at Rufus. "Actually not just that, but I came to warn you that something big is going on... I don't really have any details right now but there's been lots of commotion on the executive floors today and talk of sending SOLDIER out for some big fight. Something along the lines of Wutai starting up that damn war again???"

Kyrie remained quiet as the two bantered on, it wasn't that she dislike Damani, though she was still quite irritated with both her and Reno, plus... it felt slightly disappointing to have such a moment ruined though as soon as the young girl began talking of Wutai and SOLDIER, the young woman gasped silently as she turned to face them both. She didn't hide the fear nor concern in her eyes, she had known of this fact though it was something she truly did not want to think about, during her last mission which was this afternoon, she found herself attacked by the likes of the Wutains hence the fresh scars and bandage around one of her arms. She already knew the horrible truth.
"They're sending the 1st's and 2nd's out there, aren't they?" she asked with a sigh, she didn't need the question answered as she already knew though the situation just didn't feel real. She crossed her arms beneath her chest, her hand running along the white gauze as she kept her gaze off over to the side before speaking. "My team and I were ambushed by Wutains during our mission today, a lot of us were badly injured though luckily some like myself managed to get out with a few scrapes," she informed, frowning softly before sharing more "you're right in believing that, there will be a war... We'll be sent to Fort Tamblin, though we're still unsure as to why they've declared war on us... though they most likely have their reasons. I've already been assigned to go out there with others though we don't think it's going to happen for another few weeks, maybe even months... though there really is no telling when."
It saddened her to know she'd be fighting once more and quite frankly, she didn't like the thought of dying out there either, the Wutains were sneaky.
She looked away, unable to meet either of them's gaze before going back to her thoughts, remaining silent so the two of them could speak again.

Dezzy shook her head at Kyrie before looking to Rufus. "I don't know. It doesn't sound like it though. They're sending out scouts first to figure out the best plan of action... They have some of their best Turks heading out tonight to get a good look at the situation..." she looked concerned. The thought that Reno might be the one to go out and not come back terrified her. "I don't have anymore information at this time though... I'm sure there'll be a strategy meeting bright and early in the morning."
Rufus grunted and flopped onto the couch, his mind racing. While another battle against Wutai wasn't particularly in his favor, he would easily be able to turn it around to expedite his plan... he just had to figure it out and time it right. "Very well then, it's probably best we all get some sleep then, it sounds like the next few days are going to be exhausting," he murmured, not letting his worries show through. Yes, if SOLDIER got sent out, no doubt Kyrie would be one of them and he'd be left wondering what became of her, but at the same time he knew he had the pull to be able to prevent that from happening... but he felt she'd never leave her comrades behind, and what right did he have to ask that of her... no, it was just best he try to keep on and put his plans in motion as soon as possible. "Dezzy, it's time. I think we should proceed with Phase 2, starting tonight. Get everything ready and we'll go from there."

With a sigh, Kyrie found herself tired though not physically... She was drained, especially after tonight, the weary look on her face showed that the young woman barely got any sleep let alone a moment's peace, so this was what her father faced on a daily basis. Her attention turned to the outside, watching the rain from the other side of the windows, not really paying attention to the discussion the two were having despite how important it was. Making an excuse of needing air, she walked towards the windows and slide it to the side before walking out on the small balcony and into the rain where she closed the window-door behind her as she gripped the railings to compose herself - everything just getting too much for her.
First her emotions playing up, and now this. She just... needed peace, she needed time to think. She kept her eyes closed as she allowed the rain to fall as it comforted her, being unable to hear them from outside as she was welcomed by heavy rain.

Dezzy tilted her head quizzically before looking to Rufus. "Never expected to see you two together and not throwing food or punches," she quipped before sitting comfortably on the couch. "so we start our plans then? good I was starting to get bored...'
Rufus shook his head and glared at her. "We'll discuss this in further detail tomorrow... if you don't mind..." he looked in Kyrie's direction, wondering what was on her mind. He knew SOLDIER being sent out meant that she would go too, but how did she feel about it. "You can go now."
"But-"
"Please, Dezzy..." he implored, looking at her with sad eyes. "We'll talk in the morning."
With that he turned and headed out onto the balcony, moving to lean against the railing without looking to see if Dezzy stayed or went. Personally he didn't care, he knew she'd just find a camera to watch from. It never ceased to amaze him how she got her information. "Penny for your thoughts?"

She kept her grip firm on the railings as she looked down at the life below her, her eyes shut tightly almost as if she was about to cry though she was far from doing that, she never cried in front of anyone and she wouldn't start now. Strangely enough, she looked nearly at peace as she stood there breathing deep, the raindrops caressing her body and running down her toned arms, the rain giving her a near look of crystallized beauty.
Suddenly she heard his voice, she didn't know why... but a calming rushed ran down her spine at that soft and deep voice, almost as if it were something she needed right now. A slight mocked laughter escaped her as she shook her head lightly, a few drops straying from her hair as her eyes finally opened, once again her left eye matching the colour of the moon's as it hit her. She tilted her head in his direction, a small broken smile forming on her lips. "The fighting never stops, huh?" she breathed, her grip on the railings loosening slightly as her eyes wandered over to his hands also placed on the bars close to her own.
"I just, I dunno... I guess it's normal for SOLDIER to be afraid, not every day an eighteen year old goes off to war every day of her life," she laughed in a sarcastic manner, honestly, there was nothing to laugh about but she didn't want him to see her weak "I'm just... not ready to die, you know? Yet I do this to protect everyone... to serve the President..."
She looked down in a slight bashful manner, her hair shielding her face as the right side of her right hand accidentally brushed against his.

Rufus nodded solemnly and stared out at the city. "It's normal to be afraid of death... the only ones not afraid of it are those with nothing to lose... and when you get to THAT point in your life... I hope like hell you're 100 years old and have lived out a full life and are ready to go..." he said softly, blushing as their hands brushed against each other. "War is... endless, according to history. Whenever peace decendes SOMETHING happens and the cycle continues on... we all sit and wonder if there's a way to stop it... but at the same time, if there were, where would we be? An utopian society is great in theory, but many jobs are based around the fact war exists; SOLDIER like you for example... the people that make their weapons, such as Dezzy... Scientists that specialize in creating tools and easier ways to win battles... What would they do with their lives? Well, we all know society would be 10 times more advanced because Dezzy would focus all her damn time on creating new technology... that terrifies the hell out of me."
When it came down to it, the world might be better in some ways, but there always had to be a balance. It's what kept the planet spinning, and what kept people moving on. "My mom... she put it really well one time when I was little... 'Without pain and tragedy you have no real sense or appreciation for your own happiness.' I think she was right... if we didn't go through rough times like this, we'd never understand the difference between misery and happiness... there'd just be no sense of feeling at all you know?" he stared up at the sky as thunder rolled over them, causing a shiver down his back. "You can't know what you've never experienced..."
He looked over at her and lightly touched her hand. "I doubt you're going to die. You're too damn stubborn. and based off of our cafeteria fight a few weeks back... I think you can handle yourself no matter what happens," he gave her a soft encouraging smile.

A hardened expression glazed over the young woman's gaze as she stared out once more, the stars in the midnight sky shining dimly. A small smile curved her lips as she chuckled softly at his words though it didn't last long. "I'm not afraid of dying, it's just being forgotten that I'm scared of... At least I'd be with my father..." she averted her gaze, slowly blinking as she thought of what she would be leaving behind but shrugged it off "...Funnily enough, I don't have anything to lose so I suppose it matters not if I die in battle, at least then my death would be fighting to protect others, much like dad's."
The more she thought about it, she truly began to wonder if she really did have anything worth losing, she knew she had Faith but no to sound cruel, but the 1st Class always dealt with death easily and always reminded the young Kyrie not to let anything get in the way of her own safety. Never risk your life for someone that is weaker, but such a thought caused the young girl to shake it from her head - how could she ever think like that herself? Silently, she listened to him speak, nodding occasionally though kept mainly quiet unless she felt her words were needed. "Heh... I'm surprised to hear that from you," she commented on his words, a small smile curving her lips "My father would always say 'Life without death is meaningless', that it's only the beginning to a greater journey, but again, it's not that I'm afraid of... I guess I've just never really seen myself as someone worth remembering."
She could feel her body flinch as she felt a new contact on her skin, a shudder running through her body as she looked over at the masculine hand over her own. She stared at it for a while before gently flipping her hand so their palms touched and lightly intertwined their fingers together, there was barely an expression on her face though it was one much like a curious child's, wondering what her actions might do to affect him. Her next words came out casually, like she was speaking about the weather or even distracted by something - which she was, their hands together. There was no emotion in her tone, just logic.
"You truly are amazing, Rufus..." she said, her thumb lightly circling around an area over his hand as if testing the friction, the reaction, such contact was alien to her "Truly, and it grants me the greatest of guilt to know I once treated you so poorly, for that... I can only apologies." She gave his hand a light squeeze before looking at him seriously "Never let anyone undermine you, or make you feel anything different... You're going to be an incredible President of this company one day, you have the confidence and intelligence to pull this off."
It was then she finally removed her hand from his, pulling away from the railings as she turned to face him, her hair near drenched as it stuck to certain parts of of her face, raindrops running down her cheeks as she looked up at him. His handsomely pale face also decorated with beads of rainwater which only made him all the more attractive along with his near athletic yet slim build, though what caught her attention most was his deep blue eyes boring into her own, she saw herself again as he stared... She was nearly unrecognizable in those blue orbs of his but it finally helped her see what he saw, and she was glowing... Did he really believe in her so?
She didn't know what had come over her, but she felt she needed to thank him in one way or another, or to just even feel what it was like to have a friend or even feel a comfort long lost from him. Taking a few steps forward with her head bowed, she waited until her brows came into contact with his soaked chest then slowly brought her arms up to wrap around his waist tightly before her eyes half closed. Her embraced tightened only slightly as she held his taller frame into hers, her fingertips dragging softly along his spine, her breathing muffled into his chest.
No words were said nor needed during this moment as actions spoke for themselves. She cared for him and if he needed her for this, then she would do all she could to help him achieve his goal.

Rufus sighed, staring at their interlocked hands and rubbing a spot on the back of her hand. They were slightly softer than he expected out of the SOLDIER, but that didn't bother him... nor did the contact disturb him at all... to him it almost felt normal, natural. He wasn't used to holding hands with anyone... he hadn't held another's hand since he had been five or six. Her words... surprised him at first. They were so kind and gentle, and for the first time in his life he truly felt like he was doing the right thing by fighting against his father's reign.
"Thank you... Kyri-" he stopped short as she wrapped her arms around him, her head against his chest. A deep breath filled his lungs with cold air as his brain struggled to respond to the sudden affection. Of their own accord, his arms slowly wrapped around her shoulders, holding her loosely while his head figured out what he was doing and if he was doing it right. No one had hugged or held him since his mother, and back then he had been small enough to curl up in his arms by himself. This was completely foreign to him. Eventually his hold tightened ever so slightly, and if anyone had been looking at his face he would have looked like a deer in the headlights at that moment.
How much things changed in just a few days... Rufus lowered his chin onto her head and sighed softly. "Thank you... thank you," he whispered softly, closing his eyes momentarily. "But confidence, intelligence... they're nothing without strong people on my team, and a solid plan in place... if we succeed it's not because of me, it's because of all of us... if we succeed it's because of the people who believed in me enough to help me... This won't just be my victory... it'll be ours."

Standing there, Kyrie felt herself overwhelmed with emotion as her shoulders trembled slightly, a lump beginning to rise in her throat as she nearly allowed herself to break down, though it was if internally someone had pushed the thought of doing such a foolish thing away - it wasn't like her and now was not the time. However, she hand't felt this comfortable around someone in a long time and of all people it turned out to be him. Truly, she felt awful and she knew she shouldn't let it eat away at her... but she had lost so much, she didn't know who or what to be angry at, usually she'd take it out on monsters, but they couldn't feel... Monsters didn't care nor show any expression when hurtful things were said. Thinking like that, she felt her heart sink... If anyone was the monster here, it was her.
As if desperate for reassurance, she gripped tighter around the slightly taller blonde's waist, burying her head as deep as possible as she let out a shuddering sigh as the rain pelted down on them both. A sorrowful expression etched her pale moonlit features as she stood there not yet speaking as she listened to him. In truth, she didn't care what it brought for her... she knew it wouldn't give her anything that she wanted, but... in her experiences, she couldn't bare the thought of someone having their dream taken away - their happiness.
"Whatever it brings... I don't care," she whispered, her fingertips gripping the cloth on his back, her chest pressing in deeper into his own "You deserve this... I'll make sure you get it..."

Rufus held her closer and rested his head on hers. "Thank you, for everything," he whispered and stroked her soaking wet hair. His heart felt a bit lifted, standing in the rain with her. She was truly a beautiful being, inside and out, and he couldn't believe just a mere week ago they were at each other's throats. He swore he'd never take her for granted, and that he'd do whatever it took to make her happy and to make sure nothing bad happened to her. "But uh... I'm getting kind of cold now... and it really wouldn't do for me to get sick at this point..."

A soft chuckle escaped the girl at the mention of him getting sick, a small smile curved her lips, she had forgotten that not everyone doesn't get sick standing out in the rain like she did though she had to admit, she did feel a little cold and in need of warming up. Finally, after what felt like forever, she pulled away from him, her eyes meeting his for a short time before she pulled open the glass door and stepped back inside the the warm room where the fire crackled next to Dark Nation's bed.
She looked down to see some droplets of water hit his pure white carpet, a sudden wave of nerves washed over her as she looked back at him. "Uhm... if you don't mind, I'd like to use your bathroom... I don't think it'd do me much good being in soaking wet clothes for the rest of the evening," she chuckled awkwardly before walking away in search of a bathroom where she could wash up. She came across a bedroom and study until she eventually found the bathroom, the entirety of it was clean and pristine white!
With a small sigh, she wrestled her dress off and kicked off her boots then finally peeled off her undergarments, leaving them outside to bathroom on a rail near a radiator to dry. She stood there for a while, deciding whether to go for a shower or a bath... though considering she hated standing too long, she chose the bath and began to run it. Whilst she waited, she peered around at the various colognes and products, a surprised blink was let off. He really was well groomed, huh?
Once the bath tub was filled, she turned the taps off and carefully stepped in, a relaxed sigh escaping her as her body tingled from the warm sensation. She didn't know the last time she had a bath time this good. She sunk even deeper, her eyes closing as the warm water embraced her - she always had been a water baby. "I'm sure he wouldn't mind..." she murmured to herself, reaching for a bottle of bubble soap and poured some into the water, splashing slightly as foam bubbles began to form.
She's stay there for a while until Rufus composed himself also.

Rufus didn't even have time to stutter out an answer before she was off looking for his bathroom. He simply stared and blinked for a few moments before shaking his head and walking into his bedroom. It didn't take long for him to dry off and change into something more comfortable and relaxed; white cotton PJ pants and a thin white tank top with the Shinra logo on it. His wet clothes were hung on the edge of the laundry hamper and would be dealt with in the morning. His mind was suddenly exhausted and he didn't know why. Sure it had been a long, emotional day but it still didn't explain the sudden drain on his energy.
A small part of his brain recognized the fact that there was now a girl, a girl that he liked, that was using his bathroom right then and there... and that small part of his brain was elated that he had come so far in the past few days... the rest of his mind just wanted a glass of red wine, a good book and the first night of sleep he had gotten in nearly three days. He wandered over to the bathroom door and knocked politely. "If you need towels or anything, they're in the large wardrobe by the sink," he said, making sure to be loud enough so she could hear. He poured himself that glass of wine that he promised himself and lay on the couch for a few minutes.
Dark Nation wandered over to him, resting his head on his chest for a petting that he well deserved. "Good boy," he murmured, his eyes drifted close. He tried to resist the urge to sleep, but with the rhythmic purring of his furry companion, he couldn't help but drift off for a bit.
